From Pasture to Plate — 15 Years of Doing It Right
Fifteen years ago, two families shared a simple but ambitious vision: bring the very best of the Fraser Valley and surrounding BC farmlands to the city. What started as a passion project rooted in the 100-mile diet has grown from 40 products to over 400 — and a movement that has quietly changed the way Vancouver eats.
Over the years, the road brought changes — as it always does. By 2017, HOTRO.ca had become a single-family operation, shaped by love, loss, and an unshakeable belief that food made with integrity is worth fighting for. That belief is still the heartbeat of everything we do.
Our Roots
We've always believed the best food doesn't travel across continents — it grows in our backyard. By partnering with local family farms like Bradner Farms, every cut of beef we carry is 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, and raised to the highest animal welfare standards in Western Canada. No shortcuts. No compromises. That commitment hasn't changed since day one.
The Mad Brit Kitchen
At the heart of our operation is Chef Allen Ingram — the "Mad Brit" — whose award-winning sausage line blends traditional British butchery with a clean-label philosophy. We've stripped away the fillers, nitrates, and hormones found in commercial meats, replacing them with local cider, aged cheddars, and organic spices. From our legendary Traditional Bangers to our gourmet Duck, Sour Cherry & Apricot sausages, the Mad Brit seal is a promise of authenticity and chef-driven craft.
Nourish Yourself
Modern life moves fast — but nutrition shouldn't suffer for it. That's why we created the Nourish Yourself line: therapeutic-grade 48-hour bone broths slow-simmered for maximum collagen and minerals, and chef-prepared ready meals like our Shepherd's Pie and Beef Bourguignon — slow food convenience for families who refuse to compromise.
Our Journey
In 2014, we opened our first retail location in Vancouver — a flagship that became a beloved neighbourhood institution. In February 2025, we made the difficult decision to close that store after the Broadway Corridor construction project devastated our foot and vehicle traffic by over 90%. It was a hard chapter, but not the end of our story.
In 2024, we opened our first Sunshine Coast location, and today we deliver to Metro Vancouver five days a week — Monday through Friday — with the same passion and standards we've held since the beginning. We've also expanded our in-house production, with a growing focus on fermented foods, and our products are now wholesaled across Western Canadian supermarkets.
