What is Kimchi? Kimchi is a traditional Korean fermented vegetable staple with bold, savoury flavour and a lively tang. HOTRO.ca’s house-made version combines organic napa cabbage, radish, and carrot with aromatic seasonings. Made in our Gibsons production facility by executive chef Allen Ingram, it is fermented for 10 days to develop its full flavour.
- Flavour Profile: Tangy, spicy, and savoury, with garlic, ginger, and a satisfying vegetable crunch.
- Usage: Serve as a side with grilled meats, spoon onto rice bowls, tuck into sandwiches, or stir into fried rice for a bold flavour boost.
- Ingredients: Organic napa cabbage, radish, carrot, chili powder, garlic, ginger, salt, fish sauce, shrimp paste, Korean pepper paste (gochujang), and a gluten-free porridge paste used as a thickener.
- Fermented Flavour: A 10-day fermentation develops the distinctive sour character that balances rich meats and savoury dishes.
- Jar Sizes: Available in 250mL and 500mL jars.
- Contains Fish and Shrimp: Made with fish sauce and shrimp paste.
Tips from our Executive Chef:
Try serving kimchi alongside crisp roasted pork belly with mustard greens and roasted fingerling potatoes. Its bright tang and spice cut through the richness of the pork.
For a quick meal, chop some kimchi and stir it into fried rice, then top with a fried egg and sliced green onions. Or add a spoonful to a grilled cheese sandwich for a tangy, savoury twist.
